Parent Observation Week happens once a year, and it is exactly what it sounds like. Parents join the last half of their dancer's class, get a behind-the-scenes look at how class actually runs week to week, and see their child's progress firsthand.
Teachers walk through a typical class structure so parents understand what is being developed and why. And at some point, you will likely get pulled onto the floor to try a little of it yourself. Wear shoes you can move in.
Parents join during the last half of their dancer's class. Plan to arrive at roughly the midpoint of your dancer's scheduled class time. Teachers will bring you in from there. The studio may communicate specific arrival times for each class closer to the week.
Teachers walk parents through the class structure, explaining what each section builds toward and why it matters. You will see your dancer in their actual training environment, get a real sense of what class looks and feels like from week to week, and watch the skills they have been developing take shape in real time.
Possibly, and that is part of what makes this week worthwhile. Parents who get on the floor alongside their dancer often come away with a much better understanding of what their child is actually doing every week. Nothing intense or intimidating. Just a taste of what class feels like from the inside.
No. Just plan to arrive at the studio during the second half of your dancer's class during the week of February 8-13.
Yes. Outside of Parent Observation Week, classes are closed to parent observers so dancers can focus without distraction. This week is the one annual exception.
Parent Observation Week runs Monday through Saturday. Arrive at the midpoint of your dancer's class on any day that works for your schedule.
